How Long Does a Newborn Photoshoot Take?

Typical Session Length

Most newborn photoshoots last between 2–3 hours. This allows plenty of time for:

  • Feeding, winding and nappy changes

  • Gentle posing on my beanbag or in props

  • A mix of solo, family and sibling photos

  • Lots of soothing cuddles in between

Some sessions finish a little sooner, and occasionally we go a bit longer but the aim is always a relaxed, unhurried experience.

Why We Don’t Rush

Newborn photography requires patience and calm. Babies pick up on energy quickly, so I keep the atmosphere peaceful and unhurried. The studio is warm, soft music plays in the background, and parents are encouraged to sit back with a cuppa while I work.

I take time to make sure baby is completely comfortable before each pose - safety always comes first. Every movement is gentle and carefully supported, allowing me to capture those dreamy, natural images that define the Little Somewhere style.

What Happens During the Session

Once you arrive, we’ll start by letting baby settle. You’ll have time to feed, change and cuddle before I begin photographing.

We’ll move through a variety of setups, from simple wrapped poses to classic bare-skin shots and if you’d like, we’ll include parent or sibling images too.

You don’t need to worry about watching the clock — I only always allow plenty of time so there’s never any rush or overlap with other clients.

After Your Session

Once we’ve finished, I’ll carefully edit your images in my signature soft, natural style. You’ll then be invited back to the studio for a relaxed viewing appointment, where you can see your gallery and choose your favourites for digital images, prints or wall art.

A Calm, Baby-Led Experience

Every baby is different, and that’s what makes each session so special. Whether your little one drifts straight off to sleep or needs a few extra cuddles, we’ll take the time they need. The result? Beautiful, timeless images captured in a peaceful, positive environment.
