When is the best time to have my Newborn’s photos taken?

One of the most common questions I’m asked by new parents is:
“When is the best time to have newborn photos taken?”

The answer depends a little on the type of images you love, but as a general rule, the best time is within the first two weeks after birth, ideally between 5–14 days old.

Why This Window Is So Special

During these first few days, your baby is still very sleepy and naturally curled up, just as they were in the womb. This makes it easier (and safer) to pose them in those peaceful, snuggly positions that everyone loves.

At this stage, babies also tend to settle more easily, allowing for a calm, relaxed session where we can take our time capturing those special photos.

What If My Baby Is Older?

Don’t worry! Beautiful newborn-style photos are still possible for slightly older babies too, they’ll just look a little different.

  • 2–4 weeks old: Babies are often more alert and may prefer to be wrapped or photographed in natural lifestyle poses.

  • 4–8 weeks old: You’ll start to see more eye contact and little smiles, which can make for wonderfully expressive photos.

Every age has its own magic, it’s simply about adapting the session to suit your baby’s stage.
