Safety in Newborn Photography - Why It Matters

The Most Important Part of Every Session

When you’re choosing a newborn photographer, it’s natural to focus on style, but the most important part of the process isn’t the props or the poses… it’s safety.

Your baby’s wellbeing is at the heart of everything I do at Little Somewhere. Each image is created with comfort, support and gentle handling in mind because your newborn’s safety always comes first.

Specialist Training and Experience

Newborn photography may look effortless, but there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. I’ve completed specialist training in newborn posing and safety, including courses focused on baby physiology and handling.

Every pose is carefully considered to protect baby’s airways, temperature and circulation.

A Calm, Baby-Led Approach

Every session at Little Somewhere is completely baby-led. That means we move at their pace, taking breaks for feeding, cuddles and changes whenever needed.

The studio is kept warm, quiet and relaxing, and I use gentle, natural posing that follows your baby’s comfort cues. There’s no rushing, forcing or over-posing, just slow, safe transitions into supported positions.

Hygiene and Cleanliness

Newborns have delicate immune systems, so hygiene is taken seriously in the studio.

  • All wraps, outfits and props are washed and sanitised after every session.

  • Hands are washed or sanitised frequently.

  • If anyone (including myself) is unwell, sessions are rescheduled - no exceptions.

It’s all part of creating a clean, healthy environment for your baby.

Parental Reassurance

I know it can feel strange to hand your tiny newborn over to someone else, especially in those first few weeks. You’re welcome to stay right beside me throughout the session, many parents find it reassuring to watch and see how carefully each pose is done.

You’ll always have time to feed, comfort or cuddle your baby whenever you wish. This is a team effort, your comfort and confidence matter just as much as baby’s.

Why Safety Should Be Your Number-One Question

When researching newborn photographers, always ask about their training, experience and safety protocols. A professionally trained photographer will never put your baby in unsafe positions or use unsupported props.

Beautiful photographs are important, but your baby’s wellbeing is priceless.

In Safe Hands at Little Somewhere

From the moment you arrive, my goal is to make your experience peaceful, enjoyable and completely safe. Every blanket, pose and prop is chosen with love and handled with care — so you can relax knowing your little one is in trusted hands.
